COME ON KOMMANDO! b/w WE WANT THE LOT – The Movements
(Parkeringshuset Productions)
These Swedes are one of the best Farfisa-acid punk bands in the world and the A side is their tribute to a German soccer team. Would you believe me if I said it’s amazing? Swelling organ and trashed-up accompaniment with a chorus you could sing on the terraces. That’s if you had an interest in soccer. Why anyone writes songs about soccer is beyond me. No matter. It’s a killer song. The flip is no less a monster, produced by Bjorn Olsson of The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. It was recorded in 2002 and has only just been released by the vaults. No- you explain that. Pinpoint guitar and a swirling keyboard down low does the job. Buy without fear.

The Movements – Come On Kommado – PH
This Swedish psych band put out a record dedicated to a German football team called the Kommados. I guess the footballers are all a bunch of Punk Rockers and fans of Psych and Garage, so the A side of the record is the team’s new anthem, called Come On Kommando. It’s pretty great Garage-Psych –singsongy and filled with great drum breaks and trippy sound effects.
The B side is a new recording of an older song of theirs called We Want The Lot. This track is more straight forward Farfisa and guitar rock that gets right to the point. Pained vocals, driving melody, a killer rave-up, and beefy outro. This track reminds me of what a lot of the great Swedish bands were doing in the mid and late ‘90s. This is definitely a record to pick up. Both sides are solid. The artwork is a little cheesy though. Everything is designed to look like a soccer field.. – Charles

Want to know how did this 7 “? Ok really curious I’ll tell you. In Germany there is a football team, the Tubingen kommando Horst Hrubesch, who needs an anthem and decides it is right and just leave the implementation to a group of garage mechanics of the caliber of Swedish Movements. Choice was never more apt as the song selected is the overwhelming “kommando Come on!” One-piece garage that has all the best features as it is angry but melodic, sweet and fast but stuns the ear and the senses as only the great rock and roll can do. And for those who think that the bottom is just a mere filler is going to listen to “We want the lot” part of an intensity that recall the best Prisoners or, if you want to move forward a bit ‘over the years, Graham and his Gaolers day. It will be even slightly more than 5 minutes of music, but the sound is able to jump from their seats to dance and even the senators of Italia dei Valori. By the way you do not know who he is, or you have never seen him play Horst Hrubesch? If this’ was arrogant enjoy the shrinking violet of Cristiano Ronaldo, the player is definitely for you.

Come On Kommando! is the latest single by Swedish psychedelic garage rock group The Movements. The story behind this single is quite interesting: the soccer team of a German village called Tübingen has been digging the band’s music for some time now so they decided to ask The Movements to write them an anthem of their own and here it comes! This cheery and energetic garage blast is well-suited for the most psychedelic soccer team in the world featuring hippies, punks and drunks! I guess I should start playing too… This is in fact a very good song that has great going, melody and spirit-rising. On the flip-side we’ve got one of the band’s forgotten classics called ”We Want A Lot” that is also up-tempo, catchy and striking stuff and recorded already in 2002. You really feel the urge to open up a beer bottle or several and party hard while listening to this track. This one has a bit more authentic 60’s vibe and everything works just fine. The Movements celebrate their 10th birthday this year and there will be for example a special album including the band’s first EP and six previously unreleased songs out soon. Come on Kommando! is available though the band’s website. This is a must-have for all the anarcho-psych heads into soccer! www.themovements.com
